Aeroméxico Adds 29 Planes in 2025 for 2026 FIFA World Cup
Grupo Aeroméxico is gearing up to expand operations in anticipation of heightened demand for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The airline plans to receive 29 aircraft this year as part of its strategy to enhance connectivity in key domestic and international markets ahead of the tournament, where Mexico will serve as one of the host countries.
“We are working closely with FIFA and event organizers to prepare for the logistical challenges. Once the official match schedule is released, we will adjust our offerings in the relevant markets to ensure seamless travel for attendees,” said Pasquale Speranza, Aeroméxico’s Vice President of Sales.
Of the 29 aircraft expected in 2025, 20 will be directly tied to preparations for the World Cup. While new routes have not yet been finalized, Speranza indicated that the expansion will involve either introducing new destinations or increasing frequencies on existing routes. “Our network design is still under review as we evaluate how to deploy additional seats and best meet anticipated demand,” he explained.
The airline has already begun its expansion with the recent launch of a daily flight from Mexico City to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, offering 1,000 seats per month. “This marks a milestone for us as we now serve our 100th airport,” Speranza said.
In addition to World Cup preparations, Aeroméxico is focused on broadening its presence across Latin America. Recent months have seen new routes added in Colombia and Panama, as well as strengthened operations in the Caribbean.
Speranza also addressed the company’s plans to return to public markets. After emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy in early 2022 following a financial restructuring during the COVID-19 pandemic, Aeroméxico is evaluating conditions for a stock market reentry. “While we do not yet have specific updates on our market return, any announcements will be shared through official channels,” Speranza noted.
