Aeromexico Cargo Leverages E-commerce to Grow
Aeromexico Cargo grew by 20% in 2025 driven by the expansion of e-commerce, using its passenger network to move freight through a belly cargo model supported by 165 aircraft and about 450 daily flights. The airline says e-commerce volumes have become a significant share of air cargo demand and are shaping its operational outlook for 2026.
In a statement, Aeromexico said the e-commerce market has posted average annual growth of close to 35%. At the global level, digital buyer penetration has surpassed 60%, according to company data. In Mexico, the country ranks among the 15 regions with the highest contribution from online sales, based on a study by the Mexican Online Sales Association.
“This dynamism is reflected in global logistics, as e-commerce currently represents around 20% of air cargo volumes, a figure that could increase to as much as 30% by 2027,” the airline says.
Aeromexico Cargo relies on the passenger fleet of Grupo Aeromexico to transport goods in aircraft holds, allowing it to expand cargo capacity without operating dedicated freighters. The airline said this model provides scale and frequency across its network, which spans 18 countries in the European Union, Asia, North America, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. Within Mexico, the cargo unit operates in 35 domestic stations.
The company says speed remains the main competitive factor for air cargo linked to e-commerce. “In the specific case of e-commerce, the main competitive advantage over other transport modes is speed, since shipments by aircraft are completed in six to eight hours, including transportation and airport processes,” Aeromexico says.
According to the airline, demand from online commerce was one of the main drivers of growth in its cargo business during 2025. Aeromexico reported a 20% increase in e-commerce shipment volumes compared with 2024. For 2026, the company expects an additional 10% increase in this segment.
The airline did not disclose total cargo tonnage figures but says the combination of high-frequency passenger flights and geographic coverage allows it to connect sellers and distribution centers with key consumer markets. Aeromexico says this positioning supports both domestic and cross-border e-commerce flows.
Aeromexico says it expects e-commerce to continue influencing capacity planning and operational priorities across its cargo network in the coming years.
