Aeroméxico’s recovery strategy allowed it to recover its pre-pandemic passenger traffic results. The airline reported year-to-year passenger growth in September 2022 and has already surpassed its 1H19 domestic flights.

In September, Aeroméxico transported 1.8 million passengers, a 33.6 percent increase in comparison to September 2021. Its international flights also increased by 27.8 percent during that month, while domestic flights grew by 36 percent, showing encouraging signs of a positive recovery for a company that struggled with financial stability and flight demands since the beginning of the pandemic.

Aeroméxico’s total capacity, measured in available seat kilometers (ASK), grew by 30.0 percent growth from September 2021 to September 2022, according to Aeroméxico’s press release. The airline also reported a 39.3 percent increase in demand measured in revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) in comparison to 2021. Aeroméxico saw a staggering 43.7 percent growth in international demand measured in RPK, while the domestic market grew by 32.2 percent in RPK. Aeroméxico recorded an 82.1 percent occupational factor in September 2022, with growth in the Mexican and international market.

The airline reinitiated flights to Morelia, Michoacan, with 14 weekly frequencies from the Mexico City International Airport (AICM). Aeroméxico also opened a new route on the Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA), which will have 11 weekly frequencies to Veracruz.

Aeroméxico is currently dealing with its Chapter 11 restructuring process under US law. “Grupo Aeroméxico's future performance depends on many factors, and it cannot be assured that the performance of a given period or its comparison with the same period of the previous year will result in a similar performance in the future,” said the airline on a press release.

The company has opened many new routes, increasing its domestic flight offer by 53.5 percent from 1H19 to 1H22. The number of passengers grew from 2.6 million to 4.34 million during that period, registering a 67 percent increase, according to Mexico’s Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), as reported by MBN.
