The Mexican Federation of the Aerospace Industry (FEMIA) argued that the aerospace industry in Mexico will continue to blossom in 2023, as the country regains its position as a strong manufacturer.

During its fourth plenary event in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, FEMIA explained that Mexico is a strategic development hub for the global aerospace industry and estimated that the sector grew 18 percent in 2022 in comparison to 2021, with revenues surpassing US$8 billion. Major companies from the industry also participated in the event, including Boeing, General Electric, Safran Group, Honeywell and Bombardier, according to A21.

Mexico is one of the strongest countries in terms of aerospace manufacturing, as it produces each of the components of commercial and private aviation aircraft, said FEMIA. The country also has engineering centers that support international operations. “The main players want to come to Mexico because they know the region could add to their competitiveness. Mexico strengthens the North American economic block,” René Espinosa, President, FEMIA, told MBN

The country’s strength will allow the sector to return to pre-pandemic export levels, said FEMIA. Mexico also has gained popularity as a production destination due to its growing talent, which currently produces the advanced motors, wiring, doors and a large number of high-quality parts.

Mexico’s aerospace sector was the fastest growing industry from 2009 and 2019, registering an annual double-digit growth, said FEMIA.

FEMIA elected Carlos Robles Álvarez as President for the 2022-2024 period. He will replace Espinosa. Robles said that the agency will continue the works left by former president Espinosa and work “hand in hand with the clusters, state and federal governments for the development of the sector."
