Representatives from Mexico’s newest business airline Aerus met Norma Treviño, Municipal President of Piedras Negras, Coahuila, to present the company’s new project for executive aviation, which includes flights to Monterrey starting on 2023.

“We received executives from the Mexican regional airline Aerus, which will soon begin operations in northeastern Mexico, including incoming and outgoing flights from Piedras Negras,” said Treviño via Twitter.

The meeting was attended by Aerus's General Director Javier Herrera and Commercial Director Miguel Legorreta, who discussed air routes, flights, departures, arrivals, frequencies, tentative schedules, support and coordination, according to A21. Herrera told El Economista that a year ago, Aerus presented its business plan to the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), which was thoroughly evaluated and approved.

“We know that it is a project that authorities liked because it proposes to resume regional connectivity with routes that no one else offers at this time. Our obligation is to comply with the established itineraries the day we take off. The validity of the concession title is for 10 years and can be renewed,” said Herrera.

AFAC granted the concession title for the creation of Aerus after Grupo Herrera poured a US$98 million investment that seek to launch the regional carrier between 2022 and 2025, according to SympleFlying. The airline will start operations with flights in the northwest of the country, as it waits for Mexico’s airspace to regain its Category 1 rank before expanding into the US. The company’s base of operations will be in San Luis Potosi, where it has operated as an air taxi since 1990. The airline has plans to obtain national coverage by 2030, according to Forbes.
