AICM Passenger Traffic Falls 2.8% as Cargo Volume Rises 6.5%

The Mexico City International Airport (AICM) reported a 2.8% decrease in passenger traffic during the first four months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, according to official data.

From January to April 2025, AICM served 14,346,784 passengers, down from 14,756,448 in the same months of 2024. In April alone, passenger volume experienced a slight decline of 0.3%, dropping from 3,692,023 travelers in April 2024 to 3,682,682 this year. The airport's busiest day was April 21, with 139,535 passengers.

Flight operations also saw a decline during this period. Between January and April 2025, AICM handled 103,785 operations, representing a 3.1% decrease compared to the 107,156 recorded during the same timeframe in 2024. This reduction occurred under the continued management of the facility by the Ministry of the Navy. 

In contrast, air cargo operations showed growth. AICM reported a 6.5% increase in cargo volume during the first four months of 2025. Between January and April, the airport handled 81,141.5 metric tons of cargo, up from 76,208.9 metric tons in the same period of 2024.

The contrasting trends between passenger and cargo traffic underscore shifts in air transport demand at Mexico’s busiest airport. However, the airport has not provided any statements regarding the causes of the decline in passenger activity or potential operational adjustments planned for the remainder of the year.
