Airbus finished the second phase of its ‘Flying Challenge’ project in Mexico, which aims to inspire the youth through science and aeronautics. Flying Challenge was created to help children worldwide become interested in the aerospace world and in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

In Mexico, the project was directed by the Airbus Foundation in collaboration with Fondo Unido-United Way Mexico. “Youth development is one of the pillars upon which the Airbus Foundation is built, empowering young people for the challenges of tomorrow. Through our various programs, we invest in the future of the communities we support, sharing with young people our passion for science in general and aeronautics in particular,” reads Airbus’s website. This challenge was developed to create paths for children to explore and learn in a way that can positively impact them and their communities. In Mexico, the project was done in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) and supported over 150 students, reports A21. Mexico is the second country in Latin America to join this initiative.

“The crisis derived from COVID-19 caused a shift in education. For that reason, it is essential for us to continue implementing educational programs such as ‘Flying Challenge’ that promote access to education and ensure the best interests of children by strengthening academic development and generating greater opportunities to achieve the maximum potential of girls and boys,” said Nancy Lara to A21.

The second phase of the project was carried out virtually, with 25 volunteers of Airbus México participating and benefitting students from 1st, 5th and 6th grade of elementary school, reports Cluster Industrial. “We are proud that despite the current crisis we were able to continue with our ‘Flying Challenge’ educational program, thus supporting hundreds of students [and stopping them from dropping out] due to the circumstances that have been aggravated by the pandemic,” said Ricardo Capilla, Head of Country at Airbus Mexico. The project is designed to impact the way children in Mexico perceive the industry and motivate them to pursue opportunities in the aerospace sector.
