American Airlines has announced plans to offer complimentary high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi to its AAdvantage loyalty program members starting in January 2026. In partnership with AT&T, this initiative aims to enhance the travel experience for its loyal customers.

The airline plans to equip approximately 90% of its fleet with Viasat and Intelsat satellite connectivity to support this service. Over 500 regional aircraft are set to be retrofitted with the necessary technology by the end of 2025.

Heather Garboden, Chief Customer Officer, American Airlines, stated, "Our customers greatly value staying connected while in the air... We've been working diligently to outfit our aircraft with best-in-class high-speed Wi-Fi and together with AT&T are proud to offer those services at no cost to our most loyal customers."

The airline conducted trials on select routes in 2025, which reportedly exceeded performance expectations. Currently, American Airlines charges passengers for in-flight internet access, with prices starting at US$10.

This move positions American Airlines alongside other major US carriers that have introduced free in-flight Wi-Fi services. Delta Air Lines began offering free Wi-Fi to loyalty program members in 2023, and United Airlines plans to roll out free satellite internet using SpaceX’s Starlink system.
