The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) reported that the 16 airport terminals within the Airports and Auxiliary Services Network (ASA Network) grew by 30.8 percent during the first 10 months of 2022, highlighting the implementation of quality and safe airport services.

The growth “is equivalent to 3.6 million people, compared to 2.2 million users who received care in the same period of 2021,” reads SICT’s press release. Passenger services grew by 90 percent in Nuevo Laredo, 50.7 percent in Chetumal, 44.2 percent in Puebla, 40.9 percent in Puerto Escondido, 38.5 percent in Loreto, 30.2 percent in Ciudad Obregon, 21.6 percent in Tepic, 20.9 percent in Colima, 18.6 percent in Campeche, 11.2 percent in Ixtepec, 9.4 percent in Ciudad Victoria, 8.4 percent in Tehuacan, 7.3 percent in City of Carmen, 6.1 percent in Tamuin, 2.9 percent in Guaymas and 0.6 percent in Matamoros.

From January to October 2022, ASA’s airports recorded 107,853 operations, a 5.9 percent increase from the same period in 2021. Operations increased in nine airports: Tamuin recorded a 61.6 percent increase, Puebla a 42.9 percent increase, Chetumal a 26.6 percent increase, Puerto Escondido a 25.5 percent increase, Tehuacan a 13.1 percent increase, Loreto a 12.7 percent increase, Colima a 10.4 percent increase, Tepic a 6.8 percent increase and Guaymas a 0.1 percent increase.

Air cargo also showed an outstanding performance between January to October 2022, with eight airports accumulating 7.4 million transported kilograms. The increase marks a growth of 148.1 percent in comparison to the same period in 2021. Chetumal’s airport grew by 1,708.9 percent, followed by Puebla with a 203.4 percent increase, Matamoros with 183.4 percent, Campeche with 19.7 percent, Colima with 11 percent, Puerto Escondido with 9.2 percent, Ciudad del Carmen with 4.4 percent and Ciudad Obregon with 2.5 percent.

“At ASA, we expect to see a clear recovery in the sector during the second half of 2022 as the first half of 2022 strongly resembles 1H19. We work in harmony with various players in the national aeronautical market to secure air operations through the incorporation of key investments,” said Oscar Arguello, Director General, ASA Network, as reported by MBN.
