ASA Network Saw Growth in Traffic, Cargo and Operations in 2022

The Airports and Auxiliary Services (ASA) Network closed 2022 with a 25.9 percent recovery in passenger services in comparison to 2021. Airports in the network registered 3.6 million users in 2022, clearly surpassing the 2.9 million users of last year. 

ASA’s airport in Nuevo Laredo outperformed the other 19 terminals by a wide margin in 2022, registering 99.1 percent growth in passenger traffic during the year. The airport in Puebla ranked second with 39.9 percent growth in the same period, closely followed by the airport in Puerto Escondido, which registered an increase of 38.5 percent, explained ASA via a press release.

The airport in Chetumal also reported an increase in passenger traffic from January to December 2022 with 34 percent, followed by the airports in: Loreto with 29.7 percent; Ciudad Obregon, 21.1 percent; Tepic, 19.5 percent; Colima, 17.9 percent; Ixtepec, 13.5 percent; Tamuin, 10 percent; Guaymas, 9.7 percent; Campeche, 6.7 percent; Ciudad del Carmen, 5.2 percent; Matamoros, 2.2 percent; and Poza Rica, 0.8 percent. 

Air operations also surpassed 2021 levels for a total of 129,095 air operations in 2022, which represents a 4.4 percent increase from the 123,664 air operations carried out in 2021. However, only 10 terminals surpassed 2021 levels. 

The airport in Tamuin led the way with the highest increase in operational movement with 57 percent growth in 2022, followed closely by the Puebla terminal with 40.9 percent and the Chetumal terminal with 20.2 percent. Puerto Escondido ranked fourth with an increase of 18.6 percent, followed by: Tepic, 11 percent; Loreto, 7.5 percent; Guaymas, 5.8 percent; Tehuacan, 5.5 percent; Colima, 5 percent; and Oaxaca’s Ixtepec airport, 3.5 percent.

The 19 terminals of the ASA network mobilized 8.7 million kg of air cargo in 2022, an increase of 123.9 percent from 2021, when it registered 3.8 million kg. Chetumal outperformed all terminals with a 1,164.8 percent growth. Matamoros ranked second with a whopping 316.7 percent increase and the Puebla terminal placed third with 162.7 percent growth.
