ASUR to Acquire URW Airports in US$295 Million Deal
Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR), operator of airports in Mexico, Colombia, and Puerto Rico, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire URW Airports, LLC from Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) for an enterprise value of US$295 million. The acquisition will grant ASUR operational control over commercial retail concessions in key terminals at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York.
“This acquisition marks ASUR’s entry into the US airport retail concessions market,” the company stated in a press release to the Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV). The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2025, subject to standard regulatory approvals and closing conditions.
ASUR executed the deal through its newly formed subsidiary, ASUR US Commercial Airports. The acquired entity currently manages select commercial programs at LAX's Terminals 1, 2, 3, 6, Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT), and Tom Bradley International Terminal West; Terminal 5 at ORD; and Terminal 8 and the New Terminal One at JFK.
To fund the acquisition, ASUR is using available cash and has secured additional financing from JPMorgan Chase Bank. Its Cancun Airport subsidiary, Aeropuerto de Cancun, is providing a parent guarantee for ASUR’s obligations under the purchase agreement.
“The financing structure allows ASUR to preserve liquidity while pursuing international expansion,” the company noted.
“This transaction is in line with our plans to grow through non-organic opportunities,” said Adolfo Castro, CEO, ASUR.
