US startup airline Breeze Airways plans to launch its first international flights in 2026, targeting destinations in Mexico, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic. The seasonal expansion will begin Jan. 10 with a Saturday-only route from Norfolk, Virginia, to Cancun, Mexico, followed by Charleston, South Carolina, to Cancun on Jan. 17, also Saturdays only.

Founded in 2021 by David Neeleman, who also founded JetBlue Airways, Breeze will operate the new international routes after receiving Federal Aviation Administration certification as a US flag carrier—the first such certification granted to a US airline in more than a decade. The Utah-based airline will serve Cancun, Punta Cana, and Montego Bay from six US airports: Charleston, New Orleans, Norfolk, Providence, Raleigh-Durham, and Tampa.

Seven routes are planned as part of the Caribbean and Mexico expansion. To support the growth, Breeze will open a new crew base at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, its 12th nationwide. Scheduled to open in early 2026, the base is expected to create over 200 pilot and flight attendant positions.

“Becoming a US flag carrier is a huge milestone for Breeze, and one that our team members have been working tirelessly on for the last three years,” said David Neeleman, founder and CEO. “We are excited to bring the same convenience and elevated experience our customers enjoy on domestic flights to three exciting new international destinations.”

Breeze currently operates Airbus A220-300 aircraft across more than 300 year-round and seasonal routes.
