GE Aerospace announced a MX$760 million (US$38 million) investment to expand and modernize its manufacturing operations in Hermosillo, Sonora, and Saltillo, Coahuila, reinforcing Mexico’s role within the company’s global aerospace supply chain. The capital injection aims to increase production capacity, incorporate high-precision technologies, and strengthen supply chain reliability amid rising global demand for aerospace components.
The initiative forms part of a broader strategic plan that will bring GE Aerospace’s total manufacturing investment in Mexico to approximately MX$1.3 billion (US$74.89 million) between 2025 and 2026. The funding will support the acquisition of advanced industrial equipment, calibration systems, and facility upgrades designed to improve operational efficiency and workplace safety.
Hermosillo to Lead Expansion Efforts
The company’s Hermosillo complex will receive the majority of the investment, with MX$725 million (US$41.77 million) allocated to a large-scale modernization program. The facility plays a critical role in GE Aerospace’s global manufacturing network and will use the funds to install new production tooling and material-handling systems aimed at increasing throughput.
“These projects will strengthen the operational capacity of the Hermosillo complex to support GE Aerospace’s global customers and programs, while we continue to raise standards for safety, quality, efficiency, and costs,” said Jonathan Ruiz, Plant Leader in Hermosillo, GE Aerospace.
The Sonora facility will also integrate advanced measurement and calibration technologies to standardize production processes according to international aerospace quality requirements. Additional infrastructure improvements are planned to enhance workplace ergonomics and employee safety.
Saltillo Focuses on Efficiency and Process Optimization
GE Aerospace will allocate MX$35 million (US$2.02 million) to its Saltillo plant, operated under its subsidiary Unison. Although smaller in scale, the investment will focus on targeted technology upgrades and facility redesigns intended to improve manufacturing efficiency and operational flow.
“With these investments, the Saltillo plant continues to optimize its processes and expand its capabilities. This allows us to provide our customers with even more reliable, high-performance solutions, delivered within agreed timeframes to support their fleet requirements and missions,” said Rodrigo Castro, Site Leader in Saltillo, Unison.
The company plans to acquire new production equipment, modernize existing tools, and reconfigure operational areas to create a more agile and productive manufacturing environment.
Reinforcing Mexico’s Aerospace Position
The announcement strengthens GE Aerospace’s long-term industrial presence in Mexico, where it also operates an engineering center in Querétaro that has been active for 26 years. The site remains central to the company’s regional innovation and product development efforts.
Mexico’s aerospace industry continues to benefit from competitive manufacturing costs and a highly specialized labor force. States such as Sonora, Coahuila, and Queretaro have become strategic hubs for advanced aerospace manufacturing, attracting continued foreign investment from global industry leaders.
GE Aerospace currently supports an installed base of approximately 49,000 commercial aircraft engines and 29,000 military engines worldwide. With more than 53,000 employees globally, the company specializes in propulsion systems, aerospace services, and integrated technologies. The new investment in Mexico aligns with its long-term strategy to “invent the future of flight” while ensuring reliable component delivery to a growing international customer base.
The upgrades in Hermosillo and Saltillo are expected to be implemented throughout the 2025–2026 cycle, supporting projected
