The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced that its “25by2025” global initiative, which pursues increased female representation in the aviation industry, continues to grow as more airlines join. The campaign urges participating companies to increase female representation to 25 percent, at least, by 2025.

IATA announced the continued focus on diversity and inclusion of some US-based airlines that joined the industry-wide 25by2025 initiative. Participating companies committed to increase the number of women in high-level management positions and in any areas where women are underrepresented, while reporting on key diversity metrics on a yearly basis.

“25by2025 came to life to raise awareness of the need to improve female representation in the aviation industry. This voluntary initiative is an initial step to making the aviation industry more gender balanced. With a large number of airlines and industry partners already committing to 25by2025, we are paving the way for an industry that recognizes female talent and creates opportunities for women in which they can thrive,” said IATA.

25by2025 has strong support from numerous companies, which has given the initiative a massive impulse to achieve this goal by 2025, said Jane Hoskisson, Director Talent, Learning, Compromise and Diversity, IATA. IATA also launched the Diversity and Inclusion Awards alongside Qatar Airways to promote progress in diversity and inclusion in the region. The Awards will recognize three categories in the areas of diversity and inclusion, with the Inspirational Model Award, High Flyer Award and the Diversity and Inclusion Team.

"We are pleased to see airlines from the Americas region leading the way in bringing to life 25by2025. The fact that Azul and GOL have pledged their support is an important step in this initiative and we hope that this will be a motivation for others to join", said Peter Cerdá, IATA Regional Vice President for the Americas via IATA’s press release.

Two out of Mexico’s three largest airlines are currently participating in the initiative: Aeroméxico and Volaris.
