IATA, Viva Aerobus Congratulate AIFA

Despite the criticism it received in previous months due to the safety of its operation and limited land connectivity, the Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA) opened its gates this Monday. The airport was deemed satisfactory by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Viva Aerobus, which recognized its proper development. 

“Viva Aerobus celebrates that the new Felipe Ángeles International Airport offers passengers a new alternative for air transportation, thus contributing to meet the growing demand that has been registered in recent years in the Valley of Mexico. Viva recognizes the Ministry of National Defense, especially the group of engineers responsible for the construction of a great work of reliable, efficient and cutting-edge infrastructure that, without a doubt, will boost the economic benefit, competitiveness and connectivity of the country,” said Viva Aerobus in a press release.

IATA stated three vital objectives for the airport to adequately comply with operation and safety requirements. First, AIFA must optimize land connectivity between the Metropolitan Area of the City of Mexico and its new terminal to increase efficiency and reduce transportation time for passengers. Second, the airport must work with the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) to promote and advise on actions that make travel safer, modern and efficient, improving passenger service. Finally, AIFA must continue to improve air traffic control procedures in the Valley of Mexico to ensure the highest standards of safety and efficiency of the country’s airspace.

Aviation adds nearly US$38 billion to Mexico’s GDP and generates over 1 million jobs, said IATA. The Association urged authorities and industry leaders to act accordingly to help the industry recover and stabilize.

IATA celebrated the opening of AIFA, “which will play a fundamental role in the short and long term for the sustainable development of the Airport System of the Valley of Mexico, benefitting air connectivity for passengers and cargo.”
