Lufthansa Cargo confirmed that it will begin operating at the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) on July 7, 2023. However, the company added that it will continue to offer services at the Mexico City International Airport (AICM).

Frank Nozinsky, Director of Commercial Sales for Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador and Central America and the Caribbean, Lufthansa Cargo and LCSLM Mexico, told Forbes Mexico that the company will work with airport authorities to move its operations to AIFA.

“We decided to cooperate with the government and saw the opportunities AIFA offers after many meetings and we no longer want to oppose it. We do not like [the transition] entirely, but in the end, we have accepted and we are going to AIFA with the freighter,” says Nozinsky. He adds that all of Lufthansa’s freighters (six) will head to AIFA, while passenger planes departing Frankfurt and Munich, Germany, will land at AICM. However, clients will be able to deliver or receive cargo at either airport.

Lufthansa Cargo recently announced alongside Swiss World Cargo, its participation at the Pharma Aero interest group as members. The companies confirmed that they will seek to promote and further the exchange of innovative solutions for air freight transport of goods, especially for the medical and healthcare segment. Lufthansa Cargo transports up to 1,400 tons of pharmaceutical goods every week and has over 250 pharmaceutical stations and 30 CEIV pharmaceutical locations in large and modernly equipped pharmaceutical hubs, such as Frankfurt, Munich, Brussels, Shanghai and Chicago, explained Lufthansa via a press release.

Lufthansa began flying to Mexico in 1958. In 1971, it expanded to become the first European airline to operate non-stop flights between Mexico and the EU. Lufthansa currently offers daily flights from Mexico City to Frankfurt and numerous flights from Cancun to Frankfurt and Munich, Germany, as reported by MBN.
