Mexicana de Aviación will operate its first commercial flight with the Embraer E195‑E2 on Aug. 25, departing at 10:00 a.m. from Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) to Tulum. The inaugural flight’s ticket prices range from MX$2,229 (US$131.12 ) for the most affordable option to MX$4,029 for a fare that includes checked baggage.

By comparison, other fares offered by Mexicana on later same-day flights begin at MX$1,829; Viva lists rates from MX$1,158 for basic service and MX$1,766 for the highest fare with baggage; Aeroméxico’s comparable package comes in at MX$3,844.

The Embraer aircraft is part of a broader state-led fleet modernization plan. Mexicana plans to receive 20 Embraer E‑Jets through 2027—10 E190‑E2 and 10 E195‑E2—with five deliveries scheduled for 2025, seven for 2026, and eight for 2027. The estimated cost for the fleet is over MX$20 billion. The E195‑E2 is configured in single-class, carries up to 132 passengers, and promises fuel consumption reductions of up to 30 percent compared to prior models.

Mexicana’s fleet strategy reflects a shift from reliance on older Boeing 737s—the bulk of its operations—to a modern regional jet platform. The airline aims to strengthen national connectivity and expand into international destinations. The government-backed relaunch of the carrier began in December 2023 under SEDENA’s oversight, with initial operations focusing on select domestic routes
