Mexico’s “Colors of Space” Wins Third Place in NASA Competition

Mexico continues to gain international recognition, as its “Colors of Space” short film placed third in the CineSpace competition, hosted by NASA and the Houston Cinema Arts Society. The film features pioneer women, Afro-American engineers and technical diagrams, seeking to portray every single aspect of the preparation for outer space and how vital all its participants are for a successful operation.

"Cinematographic material continues to put the name of our country very high, so we are proud to receive this news from NASA, and we send congratulations to Adrián Reyes, Eliana Esquivel and Ana Paulina Dávila, producers of the short film, for this victory for Mexico,” said Salvador Landeros Ayala, General Director, Mexico Aerospace Agency (AEM). 

CineSpace also presented awards for two special categories: Education Film that inspires the next generation to join the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) workforce; and a category of film that best depicts unity and inclusion. 

The contest has the full support of Mexico’s AEM, as the agency seeks to encourage national artists every year to use their talent to create stories. The contest provides the general public with NASA’s archive of images and videos, which has images of over 60 years of space missions.  “CineSpace is a short film competition that offers filmmakers, editors and animators around the world a chance to share their works inspired by, and using actual NASA imagery. Winners are announced and screen along with all finalists at the annual Houston Cinema Arts Festival which is held in November,” said CineSpace.
