Mexico’s Top 3 Airlines Carry 44.5 Million Passengers

Between January and July 2025, Mexico’s three leading airlines—Aeroméxico, Viva, and Volaris—transported a combined 44.5 million passengers, a 4.62% increase compared to the same period in 2024. During the first seven months of last year, these carriers moved 42.56 million passengers, according to operational reports from each airline.

Viva, led by CEO Juan Carlos Zuazua, reported the highest traffic, carrying 17.06 million passengers—a 10.3% increase from 15.4 million in the same period last year. In July alone, Viva moved 2.74 million passengers, up 7.8% year-over-year.

“Passenger traffic increased 7.8% in July, supported by stable summer demand,” said Zuazua. “Load factors remained at healthy levels, although slightly below last year due to a particularly high comparison base.”

He also acknowledged ongoing operational challenges related to Pratt & Whitney engine issues. “We continue working to mitigate the impact across our network,” Zuazua added. “We are maintaining a disciplined approach to capacity deployment in a demand environment that remains cautious.”

In July, Viva increased domestic capacity by 8.5% and international capacity by 17.5%. Its overall load factor for the month was 88.6%, down from 92.0% in July 2024. By segment, the domestic load factor was 89.6% and the international figure 83.8%.

Aeroméxico followed with 14.3 million passengers in the first seven months, down 3.1% from the same period in 2024. Volaris ranked third, transporting 13.1 million passengers during the same timeframe.
