The Mexican Space Agency (AEM) will create new projects using Microsoft’s state-of-the-art technology. At the Mexican Aerospace Fair (FAMEX) 2023, AEM and Microsoft announced an alliance in which Microsoft will provide technology, financing, collaboration and other resources.

The alliance aims to establish, launch and consolidate new space projects through technological innovation, explained the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) via a press release.

The agreement will seek to support startups dedicated to technology and services for the space sector. Salvador Landeros Ayala, General Director, AEM, explained that the alliance will strengthen innovation and talent through new training programs. Carlos Duarte Muñoz, General Coordinator of Human Capital for Training in Space, AEM, and Rebeca Servin Lewis, Director of Legal, External and Corporate Affairs, Microsoft Mexico, signed the agreement.

NASA scientists inspired Microsoft to contribute to human capital training. The company aims to strengthen the digital skills of Mexican talent through the creation of learning modules. "Our main commitment as a company is to make technology a platform that enhances the capabilities of people and organizations of all kinds, so collaborating with the AEM is something that we are very excited about," says Servin.

AEM, SICT, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and the US's National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) had previously agreed to develop the "AztechSat Constellation" project, on Aug. 31, 2022, as reported by MBN.

Digitization implies a “paradigm shift” in multiple industries, according to Servin. She explained that the aerospace segment can create opportunities via the cloud. Microsoft Founder's Hub program and the Microsoft platform "Azure Space" will support all new projects. Meanwhile, Microsoft’s cloud connectivity technology, infrastructure solutions and data processing and analysis tools will be used to enhance space sector processes in a robust, agile and reliable manner. The company will also promote technical knowledge for space exploration, programming training, software development skills, automation, machine learning and data science.

"We are working to make Mexico a benchmark in the global space industry, it is clear that technology is a key factor to achieve it, and that is why we see Microsoft as a valuable ally to build the future of the country in this segment," says Landeros.
