Planemakers Report Positive 2022: The Week in Aerospace

Boeing and Airbus reported an increase in orders and deliveries during 2022, both companies also defended themselves from criticism over delivery delays. Canadian planemaker Bombardier announced its preliminary full-year financial results, which surpassed analysts’ expectations.

Meanwhile, Eviation Aircraft confirmed that it will sell 30 all-electric planes to Mexican emerging regional carrier Aerus.

ASA Network Saw Growth in Traffic, Cargo and Operations in 2022

The Airports and Auxiliary Services (ASA) Network closed 2022 with a 25.9% recovery in passenger services in comparison to 2021. Airports in the network registered 3.6 million users in 2022, clearly surpassing the 2.9 million users of last year.

Boeing, Airbus Increase Orders and Deliveries in 2022

Boeing and Airbus reported an increase in deliveries during 2022, closing the year with optimistic expectations for the future. Airbus delivered 661 commercial aircraft and registered 1,078 new orders during the year. Boeing, on the other hand, delivered 480 aircraft and received 774 orders.

AEM, SEDENA Sign Agreement to Host Space Pavilion at FAMEX 2023

The Mexican Aerospace Agency (AEM) signed an agreement with the Ministry of Defense (SEDENA) to support the organization of the fifth edition of the Mexican Aerospace Fair (FAMEX), which will be held at the Military Base Number 1 at the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) on April 26-29, 2022.

Global Passenger Traffic Recovers but Cargo Slows Down

While passenger traffic steadily recovered during 2022, cargo traffic contracted due to smaller export orders, reports IATA. In November 2022, global air traffic reached 75.3% of November 2019 levels, while cargo demand measured in cargo tonne-kilometers (CTKs) fell 13.7% compared to November 2021.

Bombardier Announces Preliminary Full-Year 2022 Financial Results

Bombardier’s preliminary revenue and free cash flow results surpass analysts’ expectations amid the growing demand for business jets. The Montreal-based planemaker now expects full-year revenue to come in at about US$6.9 billion, up from a prior outlook of about US$6.5 billion.

Aerus to Buy 30 All-Electric Eviation Jets

Mexican emerging regional carrier Aerus has signed a Letter of Intent for 30 commuter Alice planes, announced the all-electric aircraft manufacturer Eviation. 

Aerus plans to utilize the nine-seater Alice for middle-mile travel across Mexico, connecting Nuevo Leon, Tamaulipas, Coahuila and Veracruz, while providing historically underserved communities in northern Mexico with access to carbon-free, cost-effective and convenient air travel, the airline said.
