Qatar Airways Orders 210 Boeing Jets in US$96 Billion Record Deal
Boeing has secured its largest-ever aircraft order, signing an agreement with Qatar Airways for up to 210 widebody jets in a deal valued at US$96 billion, according to a White House statement. The signing ceremony was attended by President Donald Trump and the Emir of Qatar.
The deal includes firm orders for 130 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 30 777X aircraft, with options for an additional 50 widebody jets of either model. Additionally, General Electric will supply the engines for the entire order, with more than 400 engines included in what GE Aerospace described as its largest-ever contract for widebody engines.
The White House described the deal as a substantial boost to the US economy, asserting it will support thousands of American manufacturing jobs while enhancing the US-Qatar commercial partnership. “This is a great moment for American manufacturing,” said President Trump during the ceremony, part of his diplomatic mission to the Middle East to promote US industry.
This agreement follows a US$4.8 deal Boeing signed with Saudi Arabia earlier in the week. Trump’s attendance at the Doha event also coincided with discussions about the potential temporary use of a Qatari-owned Boeing 747-8 as a stopgap for the delayed Air Force One program—an idea that has sparked controversy in US political circles.
Qatar Airways, a loyal Boeing customer, operates a fleet of more than 200 aircraft from both Boeing and Airbus. This new order bolsters its Boeing fleet, though the airline is also exploring a smaller purchase of Airbus A350 aircraft, which may be finalized at the Paris Air Show in June.
Boeing’s shares surged 3.1%, reaching a 15-month high following the announcement. Analysts view the order as a positive indicator of Boeing’s recovery after operational difficulties stemming from a significant manufacturing crisis and labor strike in 2024.
