Viva Aerobus continues to expand its market, as the prolific ultra-low-cost airline announces new flight routes between Guadalajara, Jalisco, and Bogota, Colombia.

ProColombia, the District Institute of Tourism of Bogota, Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), Viva Aerobus, OFVC Guadalajara and the Minister of Tourism of Jalisco were present in the inauguration of the first Guadalajara-Bogota flight. The route will be operated by Viva Aerobus’ newest fleet of aircraft, attending two of the largest markets in Latin America: Mexico and Colombia.

"We celebrate the arrival of new international routes to Colombia that strengthen our competitiveness in terms of connectivity. The Guadalajara-Bogota route generates great opportunities for the growth of tourism between Colombia and Mexico, and opens a new bridge between South America and the north of the continent," said Arturo Bravo, Colombia's Vice Minister of Tourism, via a Viva Aerobus press release.

The market between Colombia and Mexico presents a rising demand according to Mexico’s Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR), which reported that between January and August 2022, Mexico has welcomed over 500,000 passengers from Colombia, which represents a 150 percent increase from the same period in 2021.

"We are very happy with this new flight that connects Guadalajara, the second most important city in Mexico, with Bogota. This is the result of joint work with Viva Aerobus, one of our natural allies and licensee of Marca Ciudad… This new route opens up possibilities for people from Guadalajara and all Mexicans to come and discover our city," said Andrés Orlando Clavijo Rangel, Director, District Institute of Tourism of Bogota.

Viva Aerobus highlighted that Bogota’s El Dorado Airport provides unparalleled service, being the leading airport in South America, according to the World Travel Awards. The airport’s commitment to innovation, technology, diversity and exceptional quality were the most important factors in the reception of the award.

“For every MX$1 that Colombians spend here, MX$5 are additionally spilled into our economy on souvenirs [purchases], restaurants or taxis. We will continue to do what we must do together with our GAP allies so that the frequencies grow. We have a deep interest that the exchange from here to there generates an economic spill for our tourists and is beneficial,” said Xavier Orendáin De Obeso, Jalisco's General Strategic Coordinator for Economic Growth and Development.
