Mexican ultra-low-cost airline Viva Aerobus reports a year over year increase in total passenger traffic of 20.2% in January 2023. The airline was also recently recognized for its modern fleet and for its success as a low-cost airline.

“In January, we saw strong demand in our markets that show solid fundamentals, keeping demand above capacity growth. Even though this month is in one of the slowest seasons in Mexico, we were able to reach healthy levels in our load factors. Based on reservation trends, demand remains strong, marking a great start to the year,” says Juan Carlos Zuazua, General Director, Viva Aerobus, via a press release.

Viva Aerobus transported 1.75 million passengers during January 2023, a 20.2% percent increase in passenger traffic compared to January 2022. Domestic traffic grew by 22.4% and international by 4.9%.

The airline increased its load factor, from 79.1% in January 2022 to 83.2% in January 2023. Viva Aerobus recorded a load factor of 84.3% and 78.7% in the domestic and international markets, respectively. Viva Aerobus available seat miles (ASMs) also grew by 12.8% percent between January 2022 and January 2023. The airline recorded increases of  15.6% and 2.2% in the domestic and international market, respectively.

Recently, Viva Aerobus announced that airline intelligence firm Ch-Aviation recognized its fleet as the youngest in Mexico and the fourth youngest in North America. The airline has 69 aircraft (42 Airbus A320 and 27 Airbus A321) with an average age of 5.28 years. Mexican airline Volaris also appeared in the rank, in fifth place, as reported by MBN.

“The Ch-aviation Youngest Aircraft Fleet Award recognizes airlines across the globe that maintain young, modern, efficient aircraft. By operating new-generation aircraft, they contribute significantly to decreasing CO2 emissions while achieving better fuel efficiency,” explains Ch-Aviation via a press release.
