Viva Aerobus continues to celebrate a rampant 2021, as the airline continues to recover efficiently from the 2020 crisis. This month, the Mexican ultra-low-cost airline received the ‘Value Airline of the Year’ award in Boston, Massachusetts.

“Viva Aerobus officially received the award ‘Value Airline of the Year’ at the 47th Annual Air Transport World (ATW) Aviation Industry Awards ceremony, held yesterday at the Revere Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts,” announced the airline in a press release. Viva Aerobus now occupies a majority of the Mexican aviation market as it has been able to capture millions of passengers with its low-cost strategy. The ATW awards are the most coveted honors an airline can receive, according to the recent Viva Aerobus press release.

The ATW Aviation Industry Awards Ceremony rewards outstanding performance and innovation by an airline. While the ‘Value Airline of the Year’ recognizes a safe and highly efficient operation, which result from affordable fares and sustained growth, it also recognizes Viva Aerobus’ advances in innovation and travel experience. During the ceremony, ATW also celebrated the airline’s long-term work to transform the Mexican aviation industry by allowing more people to fly thanks to its low fares and land connectivity.

“We are very proud to be named the Value Airline 2021, proof of the professionalism, dedication and commitment of our team to serve our passengers safely, reliably and always at the best price, even within challenging scenarios,” said Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO, Viva Aerobus, during the acceptance of the award. Zuazua also highlighted that Viva Aerobus has the youngest fleet in the country and that its flexibility has been useful for passengers.

The Mexican airline has also implemented new programs to improve passenger experience, focusing on providing passengers peace of mind in the event of unforeseen circumstances and payment facilities to help those struggling from the economic effects of the pandemic. These new programs have been deployed alongside ‘Juntos Despegaremos,’ an initiative that allows small and medium enterprises to be announced for free on the Viva Aerobus social media accounts. The program also provided free flights for the medical community during May and June. Finally, Viva Aerobus gave its workers extra vacations and up to 60 percent in discounts for national flights to thank their efforts throughout the pandemic, according to a Viva Aerobus press release.

Viva Aerobus reported 1.23 million passengers in September 2021, which represents a 27 percent increase from September 2019, according to a recent report from the airline. The airline has worked non-stop to increase its capacity. “Year to date passengers registered from January to September 2021 totaled more than 10.65 million, a 21.9 percent increase versus 8.73 million passengers in 2019.”
