Mexico’s ultra-low-cost airline Viva Aerobus continues to take major leaps forward, reporting outstanding revenue during 1Q2022 after months of continuous growth.

“The first quarter results reflect our continued effort to maintain a disciplined approach in capacity, efficient revenue management initiatives to respond to rapidly changing trends macroeconomics and the flexibility of our ultra-low-cost business model. Successfully navigating the Omicron variant and the highest Jet Fuel prices we have faced since 2008, recorded in March,” said Juan Carlos Zuazua, Director General, Viva Aerobus, via a press release.

Viva Aerobus has argued that its young, modern fleet and low fuel consumption have been key to its recent success. The airline’s fleet is composed mainly of Airbus A320 and A321 with an average age of 5.2 years. The fleet’s bodies have a high density configuration that allows the airline to offer an average of 199 seats per aircraft, helping reduce the airline’s unit cost, according to Zuazua.

The airline secured a financing operation for its pending aircraft orders, which are set to arrive by 2026. Viva Aerobus contracted two credit lines that will ease and guarantee the company’s capacity to capture growing demand. The profitability of operations and a solid cash position will be some of the airline’s main priorities.

“Total Operating Income increased 104 percent to MX$5.3 billion (US$206 million) reflecting higher revenues units per passenger, the recovery of the load factor and the growth of capacity,” said Viva Aerobus.

Viva Aerobus reported a historic 2021, as it began to take over the Mexican market while reporting outstanding growth and achievements. The airline also celebrated its 15th anniversary with the recognition as the Value Airline 2021 by Air Transport World, as reported by MBN.
