Volaris’s Year-to-Year Demand Grows 18% in April

Mexico’s ultra-low-cost airline Volaris, which also operates in the US, Central and South America, continues to register increases in demand and passenger traffic. The airline is also expanding its operations and announced new routes.  

Volaris announced that during April 2023, its passenger demand grew 18% in comparison to April 2022, with an occupancy factor of 86%. The airline’s capacity measured in ASMs increased by 16.7% in comparison to the previous year, while demand measured in RPMs increased by 18.3% during the same period. Volaris highlighted that its occupancy factor grew by 1.1% and reached 85.8% via a press release. 

In April 2023, Volaris registered 2.9 million transported passengers, which represents an 11.8% increase in comparison to April 2022. In the domestic market, the airline increased its demand by 9% and in the international market, Volaris recorded a whopping 45.9% growth. 

“We achieved a healthy load factor in April, with particularly strong performance in our international markets. In the domestic market, we continue to see strong volumes,” says Enrique Beltranena, Executive President and CEO, Volaris.  

Throughout 2023, Volaris transported a total of 11 million passengers, of which 8.7 million were domestic and 2.3 million were international passengers. The airline had accumulated 9.5 million passengers by April 2022, which represents an increase of 15.7% from said period. Domestic and international passengers also grew by 11.5% and 34.7%, respectively. 

Volaris recently announced that it successfully submitted its report under Form 20-F for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2022, before the Securities and Exchange US Commission (the SEC) as well via a press release. Volaris also announced the addition of new routes to its more than 550 daily flights: Guadalajara-Puerto Vallarta, Mexico City-San José, Costa Rica, and Mexico City-Guatemala, explained the airline on Twitter.
