The vaccine solution will be distributed by MSD Animal Health. Mexico is the second country to have access to this 3-in-1 vaccine.

Government Agencies

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER) participated in a virtual meeting this week in which opportunities for the Mexican agri-sector in the Japanese market were discussed. In 2019, Mexico exported US$265 million worth of agri-food to this country, primarily pork, avocado, Persian lime, melon, asparragus, mango, agave syrup and tequila. During the meeting, the application process for the Mexican Pavillions of the FOODEX 2021 food & beverages fair in Japan was also presented.

The budget for the Rural Concurrent Special Program (PEC) proposed by the president for 2021 is set to be MX$334.875 million (US$15.59 million), which marks a US$232,000 decrease in comparison to the budget set for this year.

Product Price Inflation

Mexican annual consumer price inflation is likely to have risen above 4 percent in August to a 15-month high, a Reuters polls indicated. The inflation is caused by increases in the costs of goods and some agricultural produce.

The Federal Consumer Prosecutor's Office (PROFECO) has detected an increase of 18 and 15 percent in tomato and onion prices over the last month. Ricardo Sheffield Padilla, head of PROFECO, also stated in an interview with Milenio that it is unlikely that the price of chicken breast will reduce over the coming months. On the other hand, eggs, orange, lemon and chili will see a reduction after having seen prices increase in the past few months.

New Restaurant Concept

Mexico’s largest restaurant group Alsea, in a strategic alliance with Brinker International, has launched a new ‘digital restaurant chain called Its’ Just Wings. The dark kitchen concept will offer home delivery only.

Water Tensions

Two people were killed in a gunfight during a protest at a dam that diverts water to the US in the north Mexican state of Baja California. Tension has been on the rise between locals and officials as the region has been hit by more severe droughts lately.
