On World Water Day, celebrated on March, 22, 2023, Arca Continental, announced its commitment to return to nature 100% of the water used in its industrial processes, while providing clean water to 1 million Mexicans by 2030.

Arca Continental is the second largest Coca Cola bottler in America. The company pointed out that it will continue to promote initiatives and programs that strengthen water access in the communities where it operates. Over the past 10 years, Arca Continental has diminished its water consumption by 25%. Moreover, the company treats 100% of water that ends up not being incorporated into its drinks and uses it for the irrigation of green areas. In Aguascalientes, the company established a direct connection between its industrial plant and the municipal treated water network. This allowed to repurpose up to 200,000L/d and benefit 8,000m2 of green areas.

Arca Continental has contributed to the reforestation of 2,000ha of forests in Nuevo Leon and installed 50 rainwater collection systems in public schools across the country, benefiting over 200,000 students and teachers. “These actions are part of Arca Continental’s global sustainability strategy, through which it promotes efficient use, replenishment and water access for communities in the five countries where it operates. This also contributes to the shared vision of the Coca-Cola Company", said Enrique Pérez, Director, Arca Continental Mexico.

In 2023, the Coca-Cola Company will promote more than nine initiatives and partnerships in collaboration with associations like Toronto, Pronatura and Kilimo to develop water preservation projects. These will provide solutions in conservation, management, soil restoration and reforestation, as well as irrigation monitoring and responsible use of water in agricultural areas.

Additionally, the company will continue to build nature-based wetlands, for which it allocated a MX$170 million (US$9.2 million) budget back in 2021. The first of these projects was inaugurated in 2022, in the community of Cihuatlan, Jalisco, benefiting over 18,000 people. Along with the wetland, a community nursery irrigated with treated water was also built. The nursery has a productive capacity of 50,000 plants of different species and it helps support the economy of local families.

"Water, like love, moves us all. Individually we are drops, but together we multiply our impact and form oceans of change,” stated Sergio Londoño, Vice President of Public Affairs, Communication and Sustainability, Coca-Cola Mexico.
