Guerrero has emerged as the leading state in Mexico’s coffee production, contributing more than 60% of the total coffee collected under the federal program Production for Well-Being during the March-June 2025 period.

María Luisa Albores, Director, Food for Well-Being, reported that Guerrero’s small-scale producers contributed 589.7t of coffee to the national harvest. This figure places Guerrero ahead of other key coffee-producing states including Oaxaca, Veracruz, and Puebla, which together accounted for a total of 913.56t collected by the program.

Of the 6,646 small producers participating in the initiative, 4,028 are based in Guerrero. The state has invested MX$38.2 million to strengthen its coffee sector. Veracruz ranked second in coffee collection, with 178t produced by 1,561 growers.

“We started with the collection and direct purchase of coffee in Guerrero, Oaxaca, Veracruz, and Puebla. It is not just about collection, but about buying directly from small producers at fair prices, as instructed by our president, to achieve true transformation,” said Albores.

The federal initiative operates 14 collection centers and eight mobile units across the four states, aiming to strengthen rural economies and ensure fair market conditions for farmers. To date, the federal program has invested more than MX$101 million (US$5.3 million) in purchasing products directly from micro and small-scale farmers across Mexico.
