The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER) organized the Shared Prosperity Market to recognize the role of rural women in food production, biodiversity conservation, and strengthening national food sovereignty. The event included 15 agricultural and artisan producers from across the country.

The initiative coincided with International Day of Rural Women, observed on Oct. 15, aiming to showcase the diversity, creativity, and economic contribution of women in rural sectors. The market served as a tribute to the daily work of women who cultivate, produce, and transform the nation’s land.

During the opening, Xóchitl Ramírez, General Coordinator for Sustainability and Climate Resilience, SADER, emphasized the importance of women in livestock, agriculture, and fisheries for national food sovereignty. She said this means “having healthy, locally produced food at fair prices that is made while protecting the environment, water, and forests, with active community participation.”

The event took place at the Rural Women Square at SADER’s headquarters, a symbolic space honoring women’s contributions to Mexico’s rural and coastal development. Public servants attending the market were able to purchase products made by the participants. Products offered included traditional desserts, amaranth, honey, maize, preserves, cheeses, sauces, embroidery, artisanal jewelry, and textiles.
