Mexico Sets Minimum Export Prices for Fresh Tomatoes

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER) and the Ministry of Economy (SE) have established minimum export prices for fresh tomatoes from Mexico, according to an agreement published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF)

The measure seeks to protect domestic production, avoid distortions in the international market, and ensure domestic supply following the termination in July 2025 of the US Suspension Agreement on the Antidumping Investigation. The agreement applies only to definitive exports and does not restrict volumes or set maximum prices. It is intended to maintain order in the sector’s foreign trade, and the prices will be reviewed annually or sooner if market conditions require.

The minimum prices include US$1.70/kg for cherry and grape tomatoes; US$0.95/kg for round tomatoes, with prices rising to US$1.65/kg with stems and US$1.70/kg when sold on the vine; US$0.88/kg for saladette; and US$1.70/kg for other varieties such as cocktail, Campari, Kumato, mini Roma, heirloom, pear, medley, San Marzano and others.

The government said the policy supports agricultural competitiveness, rural employment and food sovereignty. It has the backing of all tomato producer associations participating in exports to the United States and will be revised once a year. Marcelo Ebrard, Minister, SE, and Julio Berdegué, Minister, SADER, thanked producers and exporters for their participation in the working groups that led to the agreement.
