In today’s world, the concept of “nourishment” means much more than producing food: It means delivering experiences that make everyday life easier, connecting with local traditions, and consistently providing flavor, quality, and innovation in a sustainable way.

In Mexico and Latin America, food is deeply rooted in cultural identity and in the moments shared with family. The region is home to extraordinary agricultural wealth, unique native ingredients, and knowledge passed down through generations.

At Unilever Foods, we know that food is more than sustenance and taste, it is a strategic driver of development. When food systems work well, they boost economies, create jobs, and strengthen value chains that benefit millions of people. A successful food business, like the one we have at Unilever, with global revenues exceeding €13 billion (US$ 15 billion), must be designed to deliver great taste with minimal complexity, supported by a portfolio that responds to consumers’ everyday needs.

Similar to the above, concrete actions from our industry are needed to ensure a food supply that is sufficient, accessible, and sustainable. Critically, however, the food industry must also contribute to greater economic, environmental, and social well-being in the country. This means making responsible decisions that strengthen productive systems, protect natural resources, and generate value for people and communities.

Strengthening Value Chains

Latin America is, without a doubt, a key player in global food production and processing for local consumption and export to international markets. By strengthening the value chains around this sector, we are creating jobs, driving regional development, and contributing to the economic well-being of millions of people.

Over recent decades, the region has evolved significantly as an agrifood producer, integrating technology, talent, and multiple capabilities that enable us to meet market needs and strengthen food security. Unilever Foods LATAM, including Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina, produces more than 430,000 tons of food, generating over 2,500 direct jobs and impacting the entire value chain, while also supporting local economies.

Responsible Innovation

Food innovation, at its core, is measured by its efficiency and its ability to simplify people’s everyday lives through practical solutions that combine flavor, tradition, and sustainability. This approach compels our organization to offer high-quality, accessible products that are also aligned with the tastes and expectations of increasingly informed consumers.

Global brands such as Knorr and Hellmann’s, alongside our “local treasures” in Mexico, like Maizena, play an essential role in connecting tastes, customs, convenience, and evolving preferences. This diverse portfolio of brands enables us to adapt to changing consumer needs, emerging trends, and diverse lifestyles, without losing sight of what matters most: Products that stand out for their taste, ingredient quality, and reliability. In addition, we’re constantly focusing on initiatives that foster resource-efficiency, creativity in the kitchen, while encouraging balanced nutritional habits.

Producing Responsibly, Sustainably

Promoting agricultural practices that are more planet-friendly is key to ensuring the resilience of the food system. Regenerative agriculture practice fosters healthier soils, more efficient water use, and the protection of local biodiversity, strengthening producers and their ability to adapt.

This approach integrates local knowledge and innovation, supporting progress toward agricultural models that restore ecosystems and preserve native ingredients that are part of the region’s food identity.

These actions define how we, at Unilever Foods, exercise leadership in the food industry today, because nourishing means caring for the land, for those who produce our food, and for the communities that depend on it. From a business leadership perspective, advancing toward more efficient, responsible, and resilient food systems allows us to build a future with greater well-being, stability, and trust.
