Trump Says US May Buy Argentine Beef to Lower Prices

US President Donald Trump suggested that the United States could purchase beef from Argentina to help lower domestic prices and contain inflation. He added that such a move would also support Argentina, which he described as a very good ally. 

Trump indicated that his administration was working on an agreement to reduce beef prices, which have reached record highs in the US due in part to herd reductions caused by droughts in western states. Domestic prices have also been affected by reduced imports from Mexico, where cattle have been impacted by a devouring pest.

The comments follow a meeting earlier this week at the White House between Trump and Argentine President Javier Milei. During the meeting, the leaders discussed financial assistance from the US to Argentina, including a US$20 billion credit line aimed at strengthening the Argentine peso. “Argentina has no money, they have nothing, they are fighting hard to survive. The president of Argentina is doing the best he can, but they are dying,” Trump said Sunday about his support for the country.
