World Vision Mexico Completed Reforestation Project in Acapulco

World Vision Mexico (WVM) completed the project “Reverdeciendo Acapulco," which aims to foster a deep connection between the younger generation and nature while addressing the impacts of climate change. The project integrates environmental education with emotional and spiritual development, focusing on children and adolescents.

Running from March to December 2024, the initiative targeted eight communities in Acapulco, Guerrero, to mitigate the damage caused by Hurricanes Otis and John. Through this initiative  WVM has restored 444.5ha of land by planting 11,850 fruit trees, improving vegetation cover, and strengthening ecosystem resilience. The project has directly benefited 359 individuals, including children and adolescents aged six to 17, while also impacting 1,846 additional community members.

In addition to the reforestation efforts, the project has established 198 agroforestry production units, promoting sustainable livelihoods for local families. Community training workshops on soil conservation, organic fertilizers, and preventive foliar treatments have involved 110 participants, who have gained hands-on experience in environmental practices.

Cecilia Feria, Regional Director for Central Mexico, WVM, emphasized the significance of reforestation within the project. "Reforestation not only restores devastated landscapes but revitalizes entire communities. Each of the 11,850 trees planted represents a step toward ecological recovery and a source of hope for families who depend on these ecosystems for their livelihood," Feria said.
