Automotive Industry Critical to Mexico: INA

By Rodrigo Andrade | Tue, 06/28/2022 - 16:17

Mexico’s automotive industry will continue attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) to the country, said Francisco González Díaz, President, National Auto Parts Industry (INA), during the fifth Expomaq Edition 2022.

“In the growth projections of the global economy, we see all the possibilities for the automotive sector. In the world ranking of FDI inflows, Mexico still has a privileged position as investments have entered the automotive sector and also in other industries,” said González. He added that the country also has the long trajectory necessary to gain investors’ confidence.

The FDI entering Mexico mainly comes from the US, Spain, Canada, Japan and Germany. The sectors attracting more FDI are: manufacturing of transport equipment with 31 percent, food industry with 16 percent, chemical industry with 10 percent, basic metal industries with 9 percent and the beverage and tobacco industries with 6 percent.

“In general terms, in the 22 years we analyzed the country, US$639.04 billion dollars have entered the country. This means that many of these investments have been successful and most of them continue to invest in the country,” said González. Mexico is the fourth largest auto parts producer in the world and the top producer of light, cargo and passenger vehicles.

The main auto parts production states are Coahuila, Chihuahua, Nuevo Leon, Tamaulipas, Baja California, Sonora, Guanajuato, Queretaro, State of Mexico, Puebla and San Luis Potosi.

Expomaq has a critical role in the growth and development of the manufacturing industry in Mexico, while also being a place for exhibition of the Mexican Association of Machinery Distributions (AMDM). “Expomaq is the 'expo of expos' of the industry. We come stronger than ever. We have an agreement that makes us dream of the next 10 years where Guanajuato will be the center of the industry nationwide. Our local businessmen have the opportunity to see the latest in technology. It helps our companies acquire the most advanced technology. The industry wins, the city wins, EXPOMAQ wins. We all win,” said Diego Sinhue Rodríguez, Governor of Guanajuato.
