Automotive Industry Essential to Queretaro: Governor

Queretaro attracted 207 new projects in the last six years, representing a total investment of US$4.4 billion and over 53,000 new jobs, said Governor Francisco Domínguez. The automotive industry played a crucial role, he added, representing over 36 percent of the total investments in the state.

In his last Governance Report, Domínguez highlighted Queretaro’s economic growth: “Mexico and the world trust in Queretaro. We are the largest auto parts supplier in the country. We consolidated our presence in the Industry 4.0, in ITC. We are more competitive in logistics, since we have the airport with the highest growth rate nationwide. We reached historical levels in foreign direct investment, consolidating value chains with North America, Europe and Asia,” he said.

From the 207 new projects that landed in Queretaro during the past six years, the automotive industry has been responsible for 82 projects (39.6 percent of the total), US$1.6 billion (36.4 percent of the total) and 21,566 jobs (40.4 percent of the total), according to the state’s government. Domínguez said that in terms of employment, Queretaro has recovered and even grown from the 34,000 jobs lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As of July 2021, the state employs 622,860 individuals, 41,911 more than in July 2020, according to IMSS.

The positive recovery and growth in employment rates have to do with trust, said Domínguez. “We had zero strikes, which leads to trust for investments. We also served more than 500,000 headhunters and we will moving forward with the implementation of the new labor justice laws in next October.”

Queretaro will continue to capitalize on its automotive industry, with the business platforms “MAS México” and “Por Más Hecho en México,” which it shares with San Luis Potosi, Guanajuato, Aguascalientes and Jalisco to boost the Bajio’s economy.

“The Queretaro Way”

Following the economic report, Domínguez highlighted “The Queretaro Way,” which he states has been chosen for six more years during June 6’s elections. “The Queretaro Way is the one that believes that the instruction of values for every child during their education determines their future and it is made real at home and school. The one that knows that knowledge never ends,” he said.
