BCS Automotive Interface Solutions to Open Plant in Queretaro

Tier 1 supplier BCS Automotive Interface Solutions will open a new plant in Queretaro in 2Q2022. The German firm, which already operates a plant in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, will kick off operations in Queretaro fulfilling orders from Tesla.

BCS Automotive Interface Solutions invested MX$1.2 billion (US$60 million) in the project, aiming to create 836 new jobs by 2025. Construction began in May 2021 at Parque Tecnológico Innovación Querétaro in El Marqués. It is set to start operations in the next few months, said Luis Carlos González, Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer, BCS Automotive Interface Solutions.

“The main heritage that Queretaro has is its security, and I am not only talking about physical and patrimonial security, but also legal certainty,” said Queretaro’s Governor Mauricio Kuri González. “In Queretaro we have 22 uninterrupted years without any strike in the private sector and I hope that we continue like this for years. In Queretaro we are not betting on cheap labor but rather on qualified labor.”

The German company decided to invest in Queretaro after evaluating other seven states, said González. The plant has already six projects to supply OEMs such as Tesla and General Motors, he added.

BCS Automotive Interface Solutions began operations 70 years ago but became a standalone company in April 2018. It now has over 3,600 employees worldwide and operates four plants in the EU, two in the US and one in Reynosa, Tamaulipas. It manufactures complex switches, integrated electronic control panels, HVAC controls, steering column control modules, access systems and sensors for the automotive industry and generated US$700 million in revenue during 2020, according to the company.

Queretaro: Supply Chain Innovation Hub

Queretaro has become an industrial hub during recent years, with strong automotive, aerospace and logistics industries, said Marco Antonio Del Prete Tercero, the state’s Minister of Sustainable Development. “Queretaro is a leader in auto parts manufacturing even though it does not have a light-vehicle OEM plant but it has a resilient economy that is returning to its pre-pandemic levels,” said Del Prete to MBN.

Queretaro is the focal point of different industries, said Carlos Canseco, Director General, Queretaro Cluster for Innovation in Logistics. “Many Tier 1 and Tier 2 automotive companies have chosen Queretaro as their manufacturing base. The state is also home to R&D and engineering operations for the automotive, infrastructure, chemical and aerospace sectors.”
