BMW has appointed Maru Escobedo as President and CEO of BMW Latin America, effective March 1, placing her in charge of operations across 27 countries from the company’s regional headquarters in Mexico City. Escobedo will succeed Reiner Braun, who led the region through a period of record sales, expanded electrified mobility offerings and sustained leadership in the premium segment.

The appointment was announced by Sebastian Mackensen, Head of the Americas Region for BMW and President and CEO of BMW of North America, LLC. Escobedo currently serves as President and CEO of BMW Brazil and will continue to oversee BMW and MINI operations in that market until a successor is appointed.

“Latin America is a region rich in opportunities, talent and resilience. Maru is the ideal executive to accelerate our sustainable growth, strengthen our presence and ensure the successful implementation of NEUE KLASSE with a comprehensive customer focus. She is the first Latin American to lead the region and is recognized for her excellence, leadership and dedication to long-term value creation,” Mackensen said.

Escobedo becomes the first Mexican —and the first woman from Mexico—to lead BMW at the regional level in Latin America. Born in Mexico City, she holds a degree in economics from Universidad Iberoamericana, a specialization in economics for import and export markets from ITAM, and a diploma in marketing from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM), according to publicly available biographical information.

She has built a career spanning more than two decades within BMW Group. The company said Escobedo began her professional path at BMW in 1998, developing an international profile through senior management roles in Germany, Mexico and Brazil.

During her tenure in Germany, she held senior leadership positions across the BMW and MINI brands, strengthening what the company described as her global strategic perspective. She later returned to Mexico, where she led BMW operations and oversaw a period in which BMW and MINI consolidated their position as the leading brands in the premium segment of the Mexican market.

Escobedo subsequently took charge of BMW Brazil, where she led what the automaker described as historic growth. Under her leadership, BMW achieved record sales, positioning Brazil as the company’s largest market in Latin America. The brand also consolidated its status as the preferred premium automaker in the country. In addition, Escobedo played a role in strategic investment decisions aimed at strengthening BMW Group’s manufacturing plant in Araquari, Santa Catarina.

Her appointment follows the end of Reiner Braun’s tenure as President and CEO of BMW Group Latin America. The company described Braun as an experienced executive with a global track record spanning Europe, the Middle East, China, Latin America and Canada.

BMW Group credited Braun with overseeing significant advances in the region’s electrified mobility portfolio, including electric and hybrid vehicles, as well as leading digital transformation initiatives and improving sales performance across the BMW and MINI brands. During his tenure, BMW also expanded its regional footprint and strengthened operational performance.

According to the company, BMW sales in Latin America reached a historical record in 2025, reinforcing the brand’s leadership position in the region for the eighth consecutive year as the top premium automotive brand. BMW also reported record sales for its high-performance BMW M models and its high-luxury lineup, including the BMW 7 Series, BMW X7 and BMW XM. The company said further details regarding Braun’s next professional steps will be announced at a later date.
