BMW Group and Evergo announced a strategic alliance that aims to strengthen Mexico’s public EV charging network. The companies will invest US$200 million to install over 4,000 new chargers across the country in a five-year period.

Evergo, a company of InterEnergy Group that arrived in Mexico through the acquisition of Mexican company E-Drive, highlights the role that both companies had in developing the public charging station network. The installation of reliable infrastructure aims to facilitate travel throughout the country in a way that is both solid and environmentally friendly, reads the press release.

BMW Group is a pioneer in the high-end EV segment and Evergo is responsible for the largest network of charging stations across Latin America. Through the five-year plan, the companies will increase the number of public charging stations for electric and hybrid cars available, adding over 4,000 chargers, reads the statement.

The collaboration between both companies “makes an unprecedented commitment to a true transformation towards sustainable mobility,” says Daniel López, Chief Commercial Officer, Evergo. The agreement is effective as of this year, allowing for the construction of the fast charging stations that connect urban areas and cities via the country's major highways.

BMW has proudly been part of the history of electromobility in Mexico with the introduction of the MINI E prototype in 2012 and the recent arrivals of the BMW i7 and BMW iX1, says Diego Camargo, CEO, BMW Group Mexico. “This demonstrates that we have stood out for carrying out projects that have set the compass for premium sustainable mobility in Mexico. We envision that in the next decade, 50% of the premium segment will be 100% electric. Therefore, it is conclusive that through our strategic alliances, such as with Evergo, we maintain our vision for an electric, digital and circular future,” he said.

At the end of 2022, Evergo announced a US$200 million investment to install 15,000 charging stations in Mexico. This plan aims to address some of the biggest obstacles to the adoption of electromobility, including a sufficient supply of electricity to ensure range, affordable, practical, efficient and cutting-edge charging solutions, as reported by MBN.

“We offer an entire ecosystem for the service of electric vehicle users to promote and develop sustainable mobility and lead it toward a greener future. At the same time, the arrival of Evergo in the Mexican market links to our vision of facilitating this transition throughout the region while promoting a positive impact on the environment,” says Rolando González-Bunster, CEO and Chairman, InterEnergy Group.
