BorgWarner introduced its new Delco Remy 150MT heavy-duty starter motor, which will be introduced to OEMs and the aftermarket in the coming months. According to the company, the Delco Remy 150MT meets or exceeds the new start-up requirements established by OEMs.

At Expo Transporte 2022, BorgWarner showcased the new motor, which will be assembled in the company’s plant in San Luis Potosi. The US automotive supplier promises that the motor will include the latest technology, covering for all 12 volts and 24 volts applications thanks to its rotating flange design. Aftermarket customers will have the possibility to add the Integrated Over Start Protection (IOCP), a built-in breakaway circuit, to bring an extra layer of protection to the starter motor.

According to Mario Barragán, Sr. Sales Manager, BorgWarner Mexico, the engine will meet all the latest industry demands: "Customers can be confident that the Delco Remy 150MT engine meets the starting requirements of new tractor-truck applications... With this product, they can be assured of reliable starts and better performance for longer.”

In 2022, the company marked its 25th year producing Delco Remy engine starters and alternators. BorgWarner is pushing to shift towards electric mobility, as the entire industry also aims to use cleaner energy.

Earlier this year, the company introduced its commercial vehicle electrification portfolio during a press conference at IAA Transportation 2022. BorgWarner presented a wide range of solutions focused on electromobility such as a high-energy flat battery system and a new modular high voltage eFan system. The company seeks to be the industry leader in components and system solutions, taking advantage of its over 130 years of experience being critical partners to OEMs around the globe.

Government regulations play an important role as the electromobility trend continues to grow. Car haulers in the US, for example, are prompting their government to adapt highway weight limits because EVs tend to be heavier than ICE vehicles. This increase would allow car haulers to transport more EVs, as reported by MBN. However, opponents warn that this measure would also increase potential dangers on the road.

Companies are introducing more efficient products to keep up with customer demand. During the Mexico Automotive Summit 2022 Echo, experts agreed that Mexico has a big opportunity in this regard. “Mexico is well positioned to become a global leader in the exportation of auto parts by displacing China and other global competitors,” said Alberto Bustamante, Director General, National Auto Parts Industry (INA).
