Bosch to Invest US$100 Million in Mexico

Germany’s Bosch, the world’s largest car parts supplier, sold about US$86.2 billion worldwide and US$2.7 billion in Mexico in 2020, reports Auto Motores. This turnover was, however, a 20 percent decrease from its 2019’s sales in Mexico, reports Mexico News Daily. However, the company plans to invest US$100 million in 2021, a 15 percent increase over the previous year, reports WSAU. 

Despite the pandemic, Bosch invested US$87 million in Mexico during 2020, explained René Schlegel, CEO of Bosch Mexico, to Auto Motores. Now, the German company announced during a virtual press conference that it will increase its investment in the country to US$100 million. The investment will be used to create new manufacturing lines and implement new digitization projects. “You can see the way we invest; there is constant investment in technology, buildings, goods, development and people,” said Schlegel to Mexico News Daily.

Bosch operates four business units in Mexico: mobility solutions, industrial technology, consumer durables, and energy and construction technology. The new resources will be allocated to the company’s operations in Toluca, Mexicali and Hermosillo. The company will also invest in the implementation of a network motion control system for auto parts production, explains WSAU. Eduardo Pérez, Vice President of Taxes and Foreign Trade at Bosch Mexico, also explained that the company plans to launch thermo-technology products to create even more attractive products and solutions, explains Mexico News Daily. 

Bosch is also planning different technological upgrades to the company’s automotive plants in San Luis Potosi and Aguascalientes and two R&D centers, explains Mexico News Daily. “In the automotive sector, there are big plans to continue on the same path. San Luis Potosi is the second most important plant that we have … Aguascalientes has been growing steadily year after year, particularly in brake systems that are important for the industry. The part of the Bajio where these two plants are located is a central point in the automotive sector and will continue to grow in 2021,” said Pérez to Mexico News Daily.
