Automotive mobility and software companies Continental and Elektrobit announced the opening of a new automotive software development center in Queretaro, which aims to develop software services based on AUTOSAR to bring practical and flexible solutions to automotive makers around the world.

“We are excited about our expansion in Queretaro and look forward to welcoming and developing a new team of ambitious automotive software engineers,” said Artur Seidel, America Vice President, Elektrobit, according to Tyt. Both companies expect to provide a platform to local engineers.

Elektrobit is an independent subsidiary of Continental that has focused on developing automotive software for over 35 years and has more than 3,500 employees in over 12 countries, including Mexico. The company seeks to attract the best Mexican talent to develop software for the future of mobility. “When you work at Elektrobit, you have the power to grow and develop your career while defining and shaping the future of mobility every day,” said Seidel.

In 2018, Elektrobit inaugurated a design center in Queretaro that is expected to host over 800 workers by the end of 2022. The center aims to increase automotive safety, especially through the development of air bag controls modules, brake modules, smart battery sensors, long and short-radars, laser sensors, cameras and other systems that benefit vehicles and users, said David Pineda, Head of R&D Queretaro and ADAS Mexico, Continental, to MBN.

“Queretaro’s ecosystem in terms of academia, industry and government is very favorable for R&D. The state has numerous automotive companies and foments a positive interaction between academia and government. Jointly with Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro (UAQ), we recently celebrated the yearly closing of the dual education program,” said Pineda.

Continental recently announced a US$40 million investment for a new plant in San Luis Potosi, which aims to increase manufacturing capabilities in the region. The company is also exploring strategic geographic zones in Mexico to cover its demand in North America, as reported by MBN. The plant in San Luis Potosi is expected to start operations in 2024 and create over 150 new jobs.

Continental needs to invest in the region to keep growing in North America, said Andreas Gerstenberger, Head, Continental’s Industrial Fluid Solutions Global Business Area. “Being able to grow in North America is our goal. We have many successful installations in the region that will be complemented by this investment through additional production capacity.
