DANA to Invest US$40 million in Nuevo Leon

DANA will build a new plant in Escobedo, Nuevo Leon, to produce an automotive axles and support OEMs’ efforts towards electrification, said Jaime Rodríguez, Governor of Nuevo Leon. The new plant will bring an initial investment of US$40 million and generate 350 new jobs.

"DANA has chosen Nuevo Leon due to his capable people and the talent the state has in the industrial sector. We keep attracting foreign investments to create jobs and improve quality of life," stated the government. DANA’s five-year goal is to invest a total of US$120 million in this plant. DANA is a Tier 1 company and a leader in the design and manufacture of highly efficient propulsion and energy-management solutions. DANA offers conventional and clean-energy solutions for drive and motion systems, electrodynamic technologies, including software and controls, and thermal, sealing, and digital solutions for almost all OEMs.

In the North American region, DANA is an important supplier for GM, which named it supplier of the year. In Mexico, takes an active role during the events of different clusters to find local suppliers. The company is also part of the directive board of the Queretaro Automotive cluster, as previously documented by MBN. Oscar Albin, Executive President National Autoparts Industry (INA), highlighted the role of the company within the golden years of the Mexican automotive sector. Between 2011 and 2016, "a number of leading international manufacturers entered the national automotive arena, including Johnson Controls, Lear, Bosch, Federal-Mogul and Dana, among others," Albin told to Mexico Automotive Review.

Some of the companies that work with DANA in Mexico are Blackhawk de MexicoTohken Thermo Mexicana and AAM Casting. The event to celebrate the start of the plant’s construction was attended by the Governor of Nuevo Leon and Jason Miller, Operations VP of DANA Incorporated. DANA’s investment in Nuevo Leon is part of the efforts of the automotive industry to promote e-mobility. During Hannover Messe 2021, DANA introduced its fuel cell bipolar plates technology as part of its strategy to support the development of alternative vehicles.
