Q: What role does innovation play in Scania at a global scale and how does the company incorporate it in the Mexican market?

A: Innovation plays an essential role in the company; it is in our DNA. We have maintained our mission to deliver more sustainable transport alternatives to the market. To achieve this, we must invest and trust in innovation. We like to take the first step and spearhead investment in R&D because to change the world, we need to be leaders.

Fortunately, we can take advantage of our presence in over 130 countries, which gives us access to a large technology portfolio that not many companies have access to. We aim to be the new leader of cargo transportation in Mexico, bringing the most advanced technology to the Mexican market. This can only be done by being passionate and breaking the paradigms around the industry.

Q: What is Scania’s approach to after-sales services?

A: When we decided to return to the Mexican market, we understood that we had to take an approach tailored to the country. While we have the best trucks, we needed to add value to our brand. To do so, we decided that Scania Mexico would be in charge of everything pertaining to our vehicles, including after-sales services.

According to our maintenance policy, we take full responsibility for both the preventive and corrective maintenance of the unit after it has been sold. This is essential to us because there is no one better than Scania to decide when is the best time to make changes. This has been the disruptive factor in our value offer to our customers in Mexico.

Q: How has the company implemented technology to ensure profitability in the country?

A: Digitization plays an essential role. Scania Communicator is our telemetry system that allows us to automatically program maintenance, road rescues and track fuel consumption. The last feature is our greatest differentiator and essential to ensure profitable operations.

We also have a Driver Coaching program that provides formal training for drivers, following up with phone calls to provide them real-time feedback about any crucial information they may need. We already have a good relationship with our customers that helps us communicate clearly that our real mission is to help each other improve transportation in the country.

Q: What are Scania Mexico’s plans for 2023?

A: We will fully focus on Scania Super, a powertrain that offers an 8 percent reduction in fuel consumption. Furthermore, we expect to expand our electric portfolio. Our goal is to present Scania’s electric tractor-trailer by the middle of 2023 and to close business deals for EVs. We will keep moving forward, with one eye on the future and one on the present.

We have changed our business role, transforming from just truck sellers to also offer global consultancy services. It is key for us to transmit this to our stakeholders because we need to look for legal and financial entities to find creative ways to implement the infrastructure needed to transition to electromobility.
