EV Charger Network Announced for Puebla

Governor of Puebla Miguel Barbosa Huerta introduced the Plan for the Deployment of Electric Vehicle Chargers, which will install 43 EV chargers in 17 cities in the short term. 

“In 2023, we will make a large investment in the installation of these chargers for electric and hybrid motor batteries and in 2024, our last year in office, we will close with another important investment so we leave in place an operation scheme throughout the state,” said Barbosa.

With this plan and others, Barbosa’s administration aims to kickstart sustainable plans before he leaves office, generating conditions that allow Puebla to be at the top of the supply chain when receiving new technology. “Puebla is working to become a benchmark in ecologically sustainable systems, especially in mobility,” said Olivia Salomón, Minister of Economy of Puebla. The devices will be installed through a collaboration between the state government and the private sector. 

Barbosa’s administration also aims to reduce emissions around the state, said Salomón. “Puebla is at the forefront by making a serious commitment to this comprehensive strategy, under the guidance of a policy that promotes mobility and economy in the regions of the state and seeks to reduce polluting emissions, especially in urban centers.” She also highlighted the importance of considering sustainability as a critical piece in order to reactivate the economy.

The state has been collaborating with major automotive companies in the state, including Audi, Volkswagen, Tesla, Volvo, Porsche, Shell, ADO and Dina, to offer these 43 electric chargers. 

Many in the automotive industry have urged federal and local governments to embrace electromobility. “The automotive sector has always been committed to the environment and its technological innovations are a clear example of that. We welcomed the Decálogo de Acciones promoted by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, but we believe that public policies are needed to incentivize the use of EVs,” said José Zozaya, Executive President, AMIA, in an interview with MBN. “All players must collaborate: the government has to offer infrastructure and incentives, while private entities need to continue strengthening their EV offer. Policies are required to change consumer perceptions of EVs, which are the future of the automotive sector. We are asking the government to establish public policies and fiscal and non-fiscal incentives.”
