Expo Transporte 2022 Grabs the Spotlight: The Week in Automotive

On Oct. 5-7, the Expo Transporte 2022 event grabbed the spotlight, receiving over 50,000 attendees and hundreds of exhibitors from the logistics, heavy-vehicle and transport industries.

From global OEMs such as Daimler, Freightliner, Scania, Volkswagen and Kenworth, to major suppliers such as Cummins, Detroit and BorgWarner, the entire heavy-vehicle industry gathered in Puebla last week. Expo Transporte 2022, organized by ANPACT, was the 19th edition of the event, which is the largest commercial fair in Mexico and the largest transport fair in Latin America.

Mazda Begins Producing CX-3 in Mexico

Mazda transferred the production of its CX-3 vehicle from Japan to its assembly plant in Mexico, which represented a US$60 million investment in the Latin American country. The company aims to produce 15,000 CX-3 units per year in Mexico, most of them for the Mexican market. 

Scania México Introduces its Latest Diesel-Powertrain: The SW6

As part of its bet on sustainable products, Scania México presented its latest diesel-powered train for trucks during Expo Transporte 2022. The SW6 or “Super” offers improvements in performance, power and speed, while also reducing fuel consumption by 8 percent when compared to Scania’s previous generation.

BRP to Enter Electric Motorcycles Market

BRP announced it would build a new manufacturing plant in Queretaro to aid the company on its electromobility transition. This plant represents a US$69.4 million investment that will generate 527 new jobs and produce Can-Am’s, a two-wheel electric motorcycle.

BorgWarner Presents Heavy-Duty Starter Motor Assembled in Mexico

During Expo Transporte 2022, BorgWarner introduced its new Delco Remy 150MT heavy-duty starter motor, which will be introduced to OEMs and the aftermarket in the coming months. According to the company, the Delco Remy 150MT meets or exceeds the new start-up requirements established by OEMs.

Automotive Industry to Reach 2019’s Levels by Late 2022: INA

Mexico’s automotive industry has been unable to fully recover to its pre-pandemic production levels. However, the National Auto Parts Industry (INA) expects that by the end of this year, the sector will surpass those production levels and grow its workforce.

Tatiana Clouthier’s Resignation Causes Uncertainty: AMIA

Representatives of the automotive industry said that the change in Ministers of Economy could affect USMCA discussion panels. Tatiana Clouthier presented her resignation as Minister of Economy on Oct. 6, 2022, and will be replaced by Raquel Buenrostro.
