Q: What is the company’s business model, and how did it establish itself in the Mexican market?
A: Following our experience in global vehicle leasing, we saw an opportunity to bring a new approach to mobility to Mexico, inspired by successful models in the European Union. The company focuses on connecting supply and demand for vehicles through technology, allowing people to access transportation without having to own cars. This model is different from the traditional models followed in Mexico, and it has helped Mazmobi become an important part of the country’s evolving mobility landscape.

The idea behind Mazmobi originated from problems companies face when leasing vehicles, such as poor experiences and the lack of substitute cars. Mazmobi proposed a collaborative model where companies can use vehicles efficiently without having to purchase fleets.

Q: How did the company adapt to the challenges that emerged during recent years, such as the pandemic?
A: During that period, we continued to develop the technological platform. The technology we used from the start already aimed to connect with third parties and optimize data, which allowed Mazmobi to adapt easily.

Q: How will Mazmobi incorporate EVs in its business model?
A: Mazmobi plans to integrate EVs into its fleet, but Mexico has limited charging infrastructure for them. The future will require the creation of mobility hubs where people can rent EVs, electric bicycles, and other forms of transportation depending on the area.

Q: What security and infrastructure challenges does the company foresee in the development of mobility hubs?

A: The primary challenge is Mexico’s security law, which does not allow for the implementation of a vehicle-sharing model that involves the general public due to concerns over theft. This has made companies hesitant to adopt such models. However, we expect that these laws will evolve, allowing for more accessible mobility hubs for private users. Legislative changes and the use of identification platforms will allow for a safer environment, enabling the use of safer and more efficient mobility solutions.

Q: What steps are necessary to promote the use of more efficient mobility solutions?
A: Many are working to change the vision of “a vehicle as a benefit" to "mobility as a benefit." Through this model, companies can offer platforms for employees to use public transportation, bikes, and other options. This approach would offer more flexible and sustainable mobility. Many people in Mexico see vehicles as a symbol of status, but it is possible to change this perspective. In the Bajio region, for example, many are working to develop more sustainable solutions, like electric cargo bikes for delivery instead of trucks, which would make last-mile distribution more efficient and eco-friendly. While more work is needed on infrastructure and cultural acceptance, the goal is to make the transition to a greener system easier.

Q: What partnerships has Mazmobi made with car agencies and rental companies, and how do they benefit your clients?
A: Mazmobi has alliances with car agencies and three rental companies in 28 cities. These alliances allow clients to reserve vehicles like a BMW, for example, and sign a rental agreement when arriving at the agency. Mazmobi works in 37 airports, making the company the leading company in car sharing and the third largest in vehicle presence in vehicle rental, just behind Hertz.

Q: What advantage does Mazmobi offer compared to competitors?
A: Our advantage lies in our ability to form alliances and connections with car agencies and other competitors. Although initially other companies did not view the competition favorably, over time, Mazmobi has managed to establish a significant presence in the market as one of the leading vehicle rental companies thanks to its strategic agreements and partnerships.
