Heavy vehicles sales totaled 3,617 units in June 2022, an increase of 29.22 percent in comparison to June 2021, according to the Administrative Registry of the Automotive Industry for Heavy Vehicles from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).

This is the sixth consecutive month with an increase in heavy vehicle sales, which comes hand in hand with the increase in the automotive production. The latter is forecasted to increase by 16 percent during 2022 for a total of 3.47 million units, according to the National Auto Parts Industry (INA) and reported by MBN.

While the automotive industry is increasing its sales, the sector is far away from its pre-pandemic levels. The sales of heavy vehicles during the first half of 2022 are still below those of the first half of 2019. In 1H22, heavy vehicle sales were 14.9 percent lower than in 1H19, when 21,888 heavy vehicles were sold, said Guillermo Rosales, Executive President, Mexican Association of Automobile Distributors (AMDA).

The Full Load segment grew by 37.6 percent in the sixth month of 2022, with an additional 871 sold units when compared to last year. The Full Passengers segment contracted during that period, with 53 less units sold for a total of 427 , representing a 11 percent reduction. “In the Total Passengers segment, the negative performance was mainly caused by a 21.1 percent contraction in Other Buses, which placed 341 units marketed by retail distributors, while Foreign Buses are sold directly by bus manufacturers,” explained Rosales.

AMDA highlights that the accumulated sales for Full Load and Full Passengers segments showed a 22.3 percent and 9.5 percent increase, respectively, meaning 2,989 and 192 more units were sold during June 2022.
