Automakers have faced unpredictable challenges during these past few years, as the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the supply chain. Customer demand also shifted and with it, the automotive industry had to adapt its unit design to be more appealing to the public eye. Automakers aim to face these and many other challenges through Industry 5.0.

For many years, Industry 4.0 was the next revolution in manufacturing. It brought about the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI). These technologies allowed the creation of new, more responsiveness services that responded to customer demand in ways that were previously not possible,

Industry 5.0, the next revolution, focuses more on the value behind the process and on the problems to solve. It takes advantage of digitalization and AI technology but prioritizes placing the wellbeing of the worker, client and environment. Industry 5.0 is “the next industrial evolution, its objective is to leverage the creativity of human experts in collaboration with efficient, intelligent and accurate machines, in order to obtain resource-efficient and user-preferred manufacturing solutions compared to Industry 4.0,” reads a study by School of Information Technology and Engineering.

The automotive industry is being quickly transformed by data. Thus, the introduction of the 5G network marks a huge turning point in the future of the sector, which is also grappling with the growing popularity of electric vehicles (EV), the shift in manufacturing materials, constant shortages, a growing focus of R&D and the change of traditional manufacturing processes.

Mexico faces several challenges to successfully implement Industry 5.0 principles, including the deployment of the 5G network. However, this network is essential to develop and implement technology that prioritizes customer service.
